Our overall strategy focuses on effective professional development, quality assurance and inclusion. It includes systemic support for improving quality throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage in local settings, children’s centres and with our childminders. Effective support to develop capacity and quality assure provision for eligible 2 year olds is key to improving outcomes for some of the most disadvantaged children.
The emphasis is on the use of robust and research-evidenced tools such as ITERS, ECERS-R and SSTEW with setting and school staff trained together on how to use the information from the audits to draw up plans for improvement.
Our evidence shows that this systemic approach to improving quality and outcomes for children is the way forward. With resources shrinking, we need to avoid duplication and work together evermore closely to secure the improvements which we want for Newham’s youngest children, so that we can improve their life-chances.
